The meeting was convened to discuss Mr. Wazeer’s proposal on Media and journalism, an initiative aimed at enhancing professional standards in Tamil journalism and media content creation across Sri Lanka.

The President Mr Shabry Haleemdeen, opened the meeting by expressing appreciation for the efforts taken to organize this important discussion, highlighting the significance of transforming the proposal into a practical and impactful initiative under the RPSL Consortium.

Mr. Wazeer presented his proposal in detail, emphasizing the importance of developing professionalism in journalism, adhering to media ethics, incorporating modern tools such as artificial intelligence (AI), and fostering collaboration between institutions like embassies to uplift the quality of Tamil media.

The President appreciated his effort and emphasized that the project must be carefully planned and executed to ensure long-term sustainability and credibility.

During the discussion, several members shared their perspectives and suggestions:

Mr. M. A. M. Hakeem expressed his strong support for the proposal. He stated that he could take the necessary steps to obtain permission from the University of Colombo to collaborate with the RPSL Consortium (Gurantee) Ltd in implementing this project. His assurance was well received by the board and appreciated for helping to move the proposal closer to realization.

Deshabandu Shaheed M. Rismy emphasized the importance of collaboration. He highlighted that choosing the right institutional partner is crucial for ensuring the quality, recognition, and success of the program.

Dr. Ali Ahlam pointed out the need to identify the syllabus and modules that would form the structure of the training program. He also discussed the nature of the certificate to be awarded and appreciated the collaboration with the University of Colombo, recognizing it as a valuable and credible partnership.

Mr. Saifdeen (Vice President and Patron) extended his gratitude to Mr. Wazeer Muhkthar for initiating and proposing this idea. He expressed that the Board of Management will fully support the project to ensure its successful implementation, adding that collaboration with the University of Colombo would be a fantastic move that strengthens the Consortium’s credibility and outreach.

Following the members’ contributions, the board engaged in a constructive discussion on collaboration models, mutual benefits, financial arrangements, recognition, funding, and participation fees.

Taking everything into account, it was agreed that Mr. Wazeer’s proposal will be considered as a Board of Management project of RPSL Consortium, with further actions to be coordinated in line with the discussion outcomes.

The meeting ended with appreciation for the members’ participation and constructive inputs.
